Paula is such a natural as a litigator that it surprises her clients and colleagues (and occasionally Paula herself) that law was not her first career. Instead, after earning an M.A. in social service administration from the University of Chicago, Paula worked in policy and planning for non-profit and government agencies. As a planner for the Illinois Law Enforcement Commission she worked to assure that Illinois’ 102 sheriffs implemented the federal law prohibiting jailing minors for juvenile offenses like running away or being truant. As an analyst for the Chicago Health Systems Agency, she worked with the City’s health establishment to develop a plan to reduce Chicago’s alarming neonatal death rate.
After that, it was Harvard Law School and a career of representing sophisticated businesses in complex litigation. Paula’s move to law twenty five years ago was more natural progression than sea change. She was already an advocate with a deep sense of commitment to her clients and a willingness to tackle tough positions and hard questions.
Paula’s consummate professionalism has not gone unnoticed. Her peers have selected Paula as one of the Top 100 Illinois Lawyers year after year and, in 2010, named her as one of the Top 10. Her clients’ appreciation has led to her recognition in Chambers & Associates. She has always been, and remains, a force to be reckoned with.
