Businesses rely on Paula Litt to translate their legal position into a successful strategy, whether they are bringing, defending or avoiding litigation.  She is focused not only on the next motion or deposition, but also on how every decision advances the case and her client’s business objectives. Recognizing this, clients – from national retailers to international manufacturers to financial services companies – call upon her when litigation becomes necessary or inevitable. Ms. Litt handles the full range of business disputes.  With her Schopf & Weiss partners, she won a plaintiffs’ verdict in the first civil RICO case tried in Illinois and successfully prosecuted professional malpractice claims against an actuarial firm. She prevailed in arbitrating claims for breach of a right of first refusal and securities fraud. She defeated claims against her clients ranging from alleged copyright infringement to breach of employment agreements to breach of a commercial lease. 

In addition to working with companies to resolve the disputes that bring them to court, Ms. Litt helps them secure the insurance coverage they purchased to protect them when disputes arise. Through her representation, corporations have recovered tens of millions of dollars in defense and indemnity from insurers who refused to pay for underlying claims including legal malpractice, wrongful death, product liability, environmental contamination, and trademark infringement.

Ms. Litt has recently been profiled by Leading Lawyers and Super Lawyers magazines and was ranked as one of the Top Ten Super Lawyers in Illinois in 2010. She is a frequent presenter on litigation topics and on client development and relations. Ms. Litt was the Keynote Speaker at the Spring 2013 Utah State Bar Convention and has been a panel presenter to the American College of Business Court Judges, the ABA Litigation Section, and the Harvard Law School Women's Alliance of Chicago.

Ms. Litt is one of the founding attorneys of Schopf & Weiss LLP and serves as a member of the firm’s executive committee. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar and admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, including the Trial Bar, and the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Fifth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Circuits.

Ms. Litt is a member of The Chicago Network and the National Board of Directors of the Women's Campaign Fund.
