Mr. Weiss focuses on a wide variety of business litigation for companies and individuals. Substantive areas include intellectual property, breach of contract, trade secrets, employment covenants not to compete, and other business disputes. His goal is to provide cost-effective representation that achieves results - either through settlement or trial.  Mr. Weiss is a founder of, and the Chairman of Schopf & Weiss.

Mr. Weiss received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, graduating cum laude, in 1980. He earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, in 1977 from Cornell University. He is a member of both the Illinois and Texas State bars, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the U.S. Tax Court, and the United States Supreme Court. His clients include Exelon, Motorola, Wilson Sporting Goods, Com Ed, the Chicago Park District, and a variety of local and national companies and individuals.

Mr. Weiss leads the way in employing the most up-to-date technology tools to meet client goals. For five years, he has been a member and liaison of the ABA's Standing Committee on Technology and Information Systems. This experience results in dividends to the firm's clients who pay lower costs and rates. Mr. Weiss speaks and writes on a variety of topics relevant to today's litigators and business people, and is an instructor for the Illinois Federal Trial Bar training course of the CBA. He is a frequent speaker on Intellectual Property and Trade Secrets Litigation, as well as issues related to electronic discovery.

He was formerly co-chair of the ABA Litigation Section's Commercial and Business Litigation Committee and has served as the co-chair of the ABA's Technology Litigation Committee. He co-chaired the 2009 ABA Section of Litigation Annual Meeting in Chicago, and was the Managing Director of the Section of Litigation for 2009-2010. He is currently on the Council of the Litigation Section of the ABA. Mr. Weiss was the recipient of the Illinois Institute for Local Government Law's Litigation Award for 2001. He is a longtime vice-chair of the Diversity in Justice Campaign of the Chicago Bar Foundation and is a volunteer in the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services' Foreclosure Mediation program. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Bar Foundation, and on the Business Council of The Goodman Theatre.
